Foreword to Srimad Bhagavatam

June 17: Srila Vyasadev first compiled the Vedas into 4 divisions. Then he wrote a commentary on them called the Vedanta-Sutras. Still not being satisfied by his service, upon the instruction of his spiritual master Srila Narada muni, he then compiled the Srimad Bhagavatam, the ripened fruit of all the Vedic literature. Suta Goswami is narrating the Bhagavatam to the sages assembled at Naimisharanya, who were there to perform sacrifices to mitigate the growing affects of Kaliyuga. The speaker of the sages was Shaunaka Rishi. In his narration, he is talking about the narration of the Bhagavatam by Srila Sukadeva Goswami to Maharaj Parikshit, on the banks of the Ganges. And in Sukadeva Goswami's narration, he is narrating the discussions between various personalities (Narada muni and Vyasadev, Kapiladev and his mother etc.). What is important for us is the subject matter of these conversations.
