Lord is never partial...

Verse 1.8.29 (surekha Mataji):
* O Lord, no one can understand Your transcendental pastimes, which appear to be human and are so misleading. You have no specific object of favor, nor do You have any object of envy. People only imagine that You are partial.
* SP compares the mercy of the Supreme Lord as the Sun. It impartially sends its rays to everyone. It is only the relative position of the receiver that makes him receive the rays less or more.
...
* The pure devotee does not render service unto the Lord for such exchange, and therefore the full mercy of the Lord is open for him.

Kuntidevi requesting for miseries...

Verse 1.8.25 (Shiva Prji):
* Here Mother Kunti is praying to Lord Krishna to give more miseries to her, so she can think of Him.
* She is saying: "I wish that all those calamities would happen again and again so that we could see You again and again, for seeing You means that we will no longer see repeated births and deaths."
* Kunti devi is not requesting for relief, but she is praying for more calamities because she knows that this is the only chance for us take shelter of the Lord.
* This material world, there is calamity at every step, especially in this Kali yuga. Dukkalayam Asaswattam.
* So we need to engage in pure devotional service, to take complete shelter of the Lord.
* There are 9 devotional services that we can chose from: hearing, chanting, .....surrendering everything to Him. Lord Krishna says, if we become advanced in KC through any of these verses, then there is no birth again for us.
Q: How do we execute devotional service?
A: Srila Prabhupada said: 9 different processes, chant 16 rounds minimum, take shelter of Guru and serve him.

* Problem we are facing: familiarity with Mahamantra. Biggest neglect we do is chanting the Holy Name. Oh we are doing it everyday, so we neglect chanting.
* Take shelter of Krishna intensely, while chanting.
* IMP: We have too much mode of passion and ignorance. Spiritual life appears to be simple, but not easy. We are trying for the topmost, Bhakti yoga, how much sincere should we be. We don't even desire to get up in the morning and chant the Holy Name. Do we have taste for the DS, time is running out for us. We are degraded.
But SP is so merciful, he has given us this wonderful process. Just do a little preaching, to please CM. The best service we can do is to try to become a pure devotee/ideal devotee. Our actions will show to the people.
If morning program is not there, we can never get out of ignorance and passion. Try to use it sincerely.

Thanking the Lord through Prayers of exhalted Personalities!

Verse 1.8.24:
* So here Kuntidevi is explaining to Krishna, the various ways He has been saving them so many times.
* Naradamuni was telling about Prahalad Maharaj of how the Lord came to save him. He also noted how Krishna was present with the Pandavas all the time to save them. Thus they were even more fortunate than Prahalad Maharaj.
* Application point: When we visit the temple, go to temple so that Radha and Krishna can see you. "How fallen we are" "My Lord thank you very much for helping me, saving me". So not to see the Lord, but for the Lord to see us.
* Gratitude is Bhakti. If we don't have gratitude for the ppl, then how can we develop gratitude for Krishna.
* Executing devotional service protects you from the fire of material existence. (How many of us know how all Krishna has removed the bad things in our life).
* So memorize these verses, so that you can offer them to the Lord in His praise.
* When there are problems, we make advancement when we completely surrender to the Lord.
* How many of us will ask Krishna for problems. But Kuntidevi requested for troubles all the time, just to be with the Lord.
* Always offer these prayers to the Lord, thank you Krishna, thank you Krishna!

Taking shelter of Krishna...

Verse 1.8.23 (Kavitha Mji's son):

* SP is talking about how Krishna saved Devaki and Kunti in so many ways.
* Especially the Pandavas were saved in so many ways, this was because Kunti was widow and Krishna was her only refuge.
* There are other examples also, where Krishna saves His devotees: Prahlad Maharaj, Queen Draupadi, Gajendra the Elephant.
* BG 4.8: To deliver the pious....appear millienium after millenium.
* If Kunti or Devaki, Krishna close devotees have to face so many problems, we can see how many problems we could face. Day in and day out, there is danger in this material world. The only way we can be saved is by taking complete shelter of Lord Krishna!

Lord's Features!

Verse 1.8.22: (Kasi Pr)
* Kunti is continuing to offer her obeisances to the Lord. The Lord's features are explained in this verse.
* Especially, SP comments on the "Pankajanabhi" name of the Lord. Like this, all the names of the Lord are coming from His pastimes.
* Listening to this, even devotees as well as the atmarama;s (SB 1.7.10) get pleased with the Lord's transcendental qualities.
* So this verse says that even persons who are self-satisfied, as soon as they see the Lord or hear about Him, they get completely attracted. Eg: 4 Kumaras, Sukadeva Goswami...
* Even Brahma-samhita very nicely describes the attractive qualities of the Lord.
* Charioteer of Krishna, Daruka as soon as he sees the Lord, his eyes are filled with ecstacy. But since this is causing trouble to the service, such ecstacy is condemned for these selfless devotees.
* Service only attracts Krishna!
* Another example: Hanuman flying over the ocean. Mount Mainaka comes out of the ocean to help give some rest to Hanuman. But Hanumanji is so eager to serve Lord Rama, he does not want to take any rest.
So through this kind of service, we can obtain the mercy of the Lord.
* SB 11.12.29 - After many births we have attained this human form, therefore death comes we should engage in the service of the Supreme Lord.
* Srimati Kunti is this spontaneously glorifying the Supreme Lord, and it is eternalized in the form of Mahabharata. We should follow such foot steps of Queen Kunti in service of the Supreme Lord.
Verses 1.8.19 and 20:

Coming soon...

Verse 1.8.19

Verse 1.8.19 (Uma Mataji's Summary):
* Being beyond the range of limited sense perception, You are the eternally irreproachable factor covered by the curtain of deluding energy. You are invisible to the foolish observer, exactly as an actor dressed as a player is not recognized.
* Who can understand Krishna, one side there is a curtain of Maya, the other side our deluded nature.
* Can be done so by following sadhu, sastra and Guru. Knowledge acquired by parampara.
* In Brahmasamhita, it is explained more on the features and abode of the Lord.
* We have increase our attachment and love for Krishna, then we can see Krishna. That is done by Sravana and Kirtana.

Verse 1.8.18

Verse 1.8.18 (Puja Mataji's Summary):

* Krishna says in BG that: "I am situated in everyone's heart, and only due to Me one remembers, forgets and is cognizant, etc. Through all the Vedas I am to be known because I am the compiler of the Vedas, and I am the teacher of the Vedanta"
* In various verses in BG, Vedanta Sutra's, it is described as to the opulences of the Lord. So hearing from all these, we can understand to some extent the true nature of the SPG.
* So to understand His true nature, we have to come out of the rebellious mode and to do this, we have to take shelter of the scriptures, chant sincerely.
* For us to understand all this, we have to read the vedas and chant nicely.
* Kshirodakshayi Vishnu is the Supersoul within our heart.
* All the incarnations expand through this K. Vishnu.
* But when Krishna comes, it is normally thought that He is the expansion of K. Vishnu, but it is through Him that Krishna comes, although K. Vushnu is Himself an expansion of Krishna.
* Maha Vishnu stays in Causal Ocean (Karunodakshayi ocean, Varaja river), universes come from His body. To create variegatedness, He expands Himself and enters into each universe. From the sweat of His body, comes Garbodakshayi ocean and in it G. Vishnu lies down. From his navel, comes a stem and a lotus. 14 planetary systems are in this stem. Brahma is born in the lotus. Then K. Vishnu expands and stays on Sweta-dwip, in the ocean of Milk.
* This establishes Krishna's all pervading ability and His ability to be inperson in front of us too.

Bhaktavatsala...

Verse 1.8.11:
* Here Uttara is accepting the Lord as the protector, pleaded to Him.
* The Lord immediately understood that Ashwattama is trying to kill the last descendant of the Pandavas. And Krishna is inclined to protect them
* Three wonderful points come out here
- The Lord is Bhaktavatsala
- Accept the Lord as our only protector and have full faith in Him
- That is possible only through sincere chanting and completely serving the spiritual master.

Calamity is Krishna's mercy, Shelter of Krishna!

Verse 1.8.10:
* We do not know when the calamity comes to us. Here, Uttara, daughter of King Viraat was under a calamity.
* She was great in all respects - student of a great devotee, daughter of a great king, wife of a great warrior. Though she as related to a pure devotee, still she had problems. So problems will come, but if we take it as mercy of Krishna and we pursue our spiritual life, then we will make it
* Death is like a sword on our head, very close to our skin
* Here Uttara would have done sati along with her husband, but only to protect her to-be-born son, she was withstanding all pain. But now even the life of the baby was in danger and he was going to be the hope for the future
* Here Aswattama was targeting her son with the brahmastra
* Srila Prabhupada is commenting here, for a devotee, there is no calamity. Since everything is for our benefit
* But what she did with her intelligence is great. She took shelter of Krishna, not of any one else. She is pleading to Krishna. Our chanting should also be very good similarly. We should take complete shelter of Krishna always and very sincerely.

Worship of Brahmanas, Servitude to Devotees...

Verse 1.8.7:
* Reconfirming the importance of following the Varnashrama dharma
* Although Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, when Sage Vyasadev and other brahmanas worshipped Him, Krishna reciprocated and worshipped the brahmanas
* So here Krishna is showing by example, to follow Varnashrama dharma
* Important to follow instructions given by Srila Prabhupada
- 4 regulative principles
- 16 rounds chanting
- reading scriptures like SB and BG
* Krishna is very pleased by the worship of the brahmanas ("go-brahmanya hithaya cha..."). And He recommends the same to all of us through His actions
* Vishnu is telling the 4 Kumaras, He is asking them to excuse Him telling that He is always the servant of the brahmanas
* Eg: Arjuna on the day of killing Jayadrata. Krishna was massaging the feet of the horses, combing their hair since they were in service of Arjuna, a devotee of Krishna. ==> Servant of the servant of the servant of devotees.
