Human form is very rare, use it or lose it...

Verse 1.8.48 (Shalini Mataji):
* Wonderful truth that is usually not seen by many of us.
* The most surprising thing is that we see everyone dying, but still we think I am not the person who is going to die.
* Krishna says in the BG that the embodied soul is just passing through this body from child to old age and then next to another body.
* Krishna is further saying, that the human form is completely wasted, if after achieving such a rare human form, we do not use it for devotional service.
* Here King Yudhistira is also feeling something similar, that this body is meant for others. But on account of him, so many ppl were killed. So he was feeling ver sinful just to enthrone him back.
* Almost 18 aksauhini's were killed: A solid phalanx of 21,870 chariots, 21,870 elephants, 109,650 infantry and 65,600 cavalry is called an aksauhini. And many aksauhinis were killed on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra.
* A good song by Srila Bhaktivinoda thakur: durlabha manava janama ....
- human form such a rare opportunity, I have wasted this rare form, Oh where or whom do I tell this tale
- when this body falls, all ones relatives cannot give any happiness. this is the condition we are in. no one can give happiness except for the Supreme Lord Kesava.
- Day and night we are working for our material life, without realizing that the spiritual life is going to docks. Spiritual laziness is the greatest danger for the society today, where we want to work work and work and no time to think or read about Krishna.
- There is no one except of Krishna at the time of death.
- Kindly leave all temporary illusions and please try to have the intelligence that will allow to worship Krishna with pure eternal love and devotion. This is the real truth.
- And the from song: vrindavana ramyasthana... this is the highest form of enjoyment we can get, if we serve the devotees, guru and Krishna, without any impurities in our heart. Uninterrupted and unmotivated devotional service.

Exalted position of Sri Bhismadeva...

Verse 1.8.46 (Srinivas Pendyalla Pr):
* In this verse, we see that King Yudishtira was not convinced in spite of being explained by Lord Krishna Himself and Srila Vyasdeva himself that King Yudishtira was not responsible for the massacre of Mahabharata war.
* If Krishna Himself has explained and someone is not peaceful, one should not think that King Yudhistira Maharaj is a normal human being or still has false ego or is exercising his free will. No, he is a pure devotee of the Lord. So here, it is actually Krishna who wants the glories to Sri Bhishma dev to come about, who makes King Yudhistira not convinced.
* The acts of the Lord are so confusing, so we should not do mental speculation. We should accept the interpretations of the acharyas, as they are bona fide.
* Srila Prabhupada explains that Bhismadeva was a pure devotee, one of the mahajans, but due to circumstances he had to take the opposing side of the Lord. So here Krishna wanted to reveal the glories to Bhismadeva, since everything he did was to please the Lord. So for this, he gave the opportunity for Yudhistira Maharaj to be convinced through the words of Bhismadeva.
* This leaves no chance to mental speculators to intrepret Krishna in our own way.

Bhakti attracts, controls Krishna!

Verse 1.8.45 (YK Pr):
* The relationship between Krishna and His pure devotees is wonderful and cannot be easily understood.
* He will never cheat us, He will wait for us that is His tolerance and patience. And pure devotion is so powerful, that it attracts Krishna.
* Mahaprabhu, after taking sannyasa, wanted to leave for Shantipur. But devotees requested him to stay, and like that they made him stay for 2 years there itself. That is the love the devotees had for him.
* Suppose we are a CEO of a company, we can hire and fire. But our young son or daugther will control us.
* Srimati Radharani is the best lover of Krishna, that is why she is the goddess of devotion.
* Even in BG, Krishna says, whoever worships Him in whatever way, He will reciprocate in that way.
* Krishna is literally controlled by pure devotional service. Here, Maharaj Yudhistir requested with love and Krishna could not reject.
* Krishna is fearful of two things: Mother Yasoda's anxiety and Srimati Radharani's anger.
* Another example: Jagadananda Pandit bringing pots of sandalwood oil to CM.
- the greatest thing in the world is bhakti. The best way to perform it is chanting sincerely the Holy Name of the Lord.

Krishna accepts our bhakti...

Verse 1.8.44 (Pranav Pr):
* Here Kuntidevi's prayers are just complete, and SP comments that Kuntidevi has prayed to the Lord just to enunciate a fragment of His glories.
* No amount of chosen words is sufficient to enumerate the Lord's glory, and yet He is satisfied by such prayers as the father is satisfied even by the broken linguistic attempts of the growing child.
* Krishna will accept anything that is given with full bhakti, anything that might be
- eg: Sudama Vipra's pastime, Putana's desire to mother Krishna. He still showed His mercy to the putana.

Summary of Kuntidevi's prayers...

Verse 1.8.43 (Mohan Pr):
* This is the last verse in Queen Kunti's prayers. She starts her prayers by
- glorifying Krishna
- explaining their relationship
- expresses her gratitude to Krishna as to how Krishna saved her and her families so many times
- then she tells what qualifications one requires to understand the Lord
- how Krishna's activities are mysterious to everyone
- her total dependence on the Lord
- asks Him to cutoff her ties with the family
So 3 aspects are seen here: glorification, gratitude, and expressions of her misqualification. This is the general mood in all the prayers of exhalted Vaisnavas. Eg: Caitanya Mahaprabhu's prayers, Siksastakam, has all these 3 components.
* Anytime we pray to the Lord, we need to have these 3 components. We need to understand the mood of these prayers and we could start off with repeating the prayers of the Lord.
* Talking more about Gratitude, Krishna's pastimes with Sudama Vipra. The subtle point here is Sudama Vipra did not have anything with him. He begged and gave some chipped rice to Him. So he gave something to Krishna that he didn't have. So Krishna was feeling ashamed that He cannot give to Sudama something that He didn't have, because there is nothing in this world that He did not have. That is the height of gratitude that Krishna shows.
* Materialist does everything for the his own sense gratification. A devotee also does things, but he does it to offer to Krishna. Third category, he does even if he does not like it, just for Krishna because Krishna likes it.
* Chanting 16 rounds and chanting 16 rounds attentively, there is a subtle difference. The bhakti lata might grow, but along with the weeds will also grow, and sometime they will kill the bhakti lata.
* Intoxication, subtle form is pride.

Family is Krishna's, not mine...

Verse 1.8.41 (Supriya Mataji):
* Imp point is cutting down the ties of family affection.
* Here, Kuntidevi is requesting Krishna to sever her ties with her family. Eg: Indra being cursed to become a hog. His attachments to the hog body.
* ...
* Another example: Blood is flowing through the body. If there is a clot in one part, the whole body suffers due to this. At that time, we are supposed to cut off the limb to save the body.
Similarly, Mother Kunti is approaching the Supreme specialist to cutoff her affection towards Pandavas and Vrsnis.
* Eg: Srila Prabhupada's life, how things were arranged in his life so that he could do such more for Krishna.

* Kuntidevi knew about her family ties, although she is asking Krishna to sever the ties, this verse is very important to understand. She bought her children in a Krishna Conscious way.
* If we think our children is our children, then it brings out attachment. But when we realize that our children are actually Krishna's property and if we bring up them in Krishna Consciousness, then out of this attachment comes liberation.
Eg: Arjuna raising Abhimanyu, Kuntidevi raising Pandavas.
* This nature of relationship means liberation.
* Cut-off my bodily relationships and enhance my Krishna Conscious relationships, that is the prayer of Kunti Maharani out here.

Death is certain, Chanting is the solution!

Verse 1.8.38 (Aashish Pr):
* Death is the ultimate truth. Kaliyuga is taking effect. It is young people who are dying now.
* The soul is different from the body. We take care of the body so very nicely, but what are we doing with the soul. Are we giving it the right nourishment.
* Envy is existing in everyone, since there is no faith being placed in the Supreme Lord.
* Lord Krishna in the BG is so nicely explaining the properties of the soul - it does not get withered in any weather etc.
* He further explaing in Chapter 12 of BG on how we should apply BG in our life - Bhakti yoga.
* Caitanya Mahaprabhu gave us such a simple and nice Mahamantra. All we have to do chant sincerely and have the faith that the Lord will protect us.

Verse 1.8.37

Sravanam and Kirtanam...

Verse 1.8.36 (YKPr):
* Mother Kunti is telling that by the process of bhakti (which includes sravanam and kirtanam), we see Krishna eye to eye one day.
* Why do we not see Krishna now first of all? Krishna says in the BG, because He is the Supreme Lord, He reserves the right of His appearance.
* Our heart is filled with demoniac tendencies, simultaneously theoretically we are knowing things about Krishna. But we need to be pure to be along with the Supremely pure Krishna.
* We need to attain the Brahmabhuta stage. We need to develop the longing to listen about Krishna. If we have such desire to listen about Krishna and in the mood of service, then we make lot of progress. Be conscious of Krishna, not just Krishna
activity.
* Every moment is a test for us, if we make proper choices, definitely we will see Krishna eye to eye one day.
* So when we hear SP's translations and purports, because his only desire is to send as many souls as possible back to Godhead, then we understand the strength of listening.
* Eg: Avanti Brahamana's pastimes.
* SP says, try to perfect at least one process of Bhakti, then surely we will attain Krishna.

Principles of devotional service, Spiritual Master...

Verse 1.8.35 (Krishna Patro Pr):
* Krishna, the SPG is all auspicious. We hear it again and again throughout His pastimes.
* In the Śrīmad Bhagavad-gītā the Lord asserts that He appears in every millennium just to reestablish the way of religion. The way of religion is made by the Supreme Lord.
* One can be delivered just by chanting the name of the Lord.
* The conditioned souls are bewildered, but the pure devotees are never bewildered by these features of the Lord. Eg: Prahalad Maharaj, Ambarisha Maharaj, Sudama Vipra and now Queen Kunti. At all times these devotees remember the Lord and always thinking of Him.
* Even in so much of miseries, Queen Kunti got strength to withstand it all by Krishna mercy's and is asking Him that these should continue.
* This material world is a place of misery. It is guaranteed. But only one way one can get pleasure is when the living entity places himself in his eternal position of being a servant of the Lord.
* Every step is a misery. Those who are intelligent, they learn from hearing. Still unfortunately, the conditioned soul always thinks that he will make himself happy somehow or other in this material world. This is not possible.
* But at this time, we have so many facilities available for us practise this servitude to the Lord so nicely. We do not know about tomorrow, but today with everything with us (especially the mercy of Lord Sri CM, Srila Prabhupada), it is the best time for us to remove our conditioning.
* The Lord waits for us, always, so that some day we will come back to Him.
* The Lord, however, out of His causeless mercy, because He is more merciful to the suffering living beings than they can expect, appears before them and renovates the principles of devotional service comprised of hearing, chanting, remembering, serving, worshiping, praying, cooperating and surrendering unto Him.
* Especially, the spiritual master, as a representative of the Lord, gives us this mercy. Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur tells how we should receive mercy from the spiritual master.
* "there is no qualification that I have". So we should pray to the spiritual master, that he gives us his mercy and only by his mercy, we can go anywhere forward.

About Krishna's appearance...

Verse 1.8.34 (Kavitha Mataji):
* Several imp things in this shloka. It explains why Krishna was born around this time.
* It is explained here as to how Brahma was born.
* Just as all demigods approach Brahma, all of us should approach Guru, who is the representative of God.
* Krishna is the person responsible for this immense creation around us.
* He is the original source of all knowledge. He gives it through the heart of Brahma (who is born just by the direct thought of Vishnu)
* Everytime Krishna comes, He comes just to protect the devotees and annihilate the demonaic person. So many examples: Lord Buddha, Lord Narasimha, Lord Rama, Kalki avatar.
* In Kaliyuga, even SB and the Holy Name are incarnations of Krishna. So taking shelter of these is the best thing for us.
* To avoid degradation, we need to take up to Krishna Consciousness.

Sincere, serious and no ulterior motives

Verse 1.8.33 (Sacisuta Pr):
...
...
...
* To maintain enthusiasm
- be sincere
- be serious
- do not have any ulterior motives
* Chanting is our only means to be delivered, it is our only protection. We have to give it the topmost priority.

Faith and Austerity for Krishna!

Verse 1.8.32 (Sundari Mji):
* These are the prayers by Srimati Kuntidevi, when Lord Krishna was getting ready to leave to Dwaraka.
* Very imp prayers that we should meditate on. She did not ask Krishna to reduce the problems, but asked Him to stay so that she has strength of face the problems.
* In this verse: Some say that the Unborn is born for the glorification of pious kings, and others say that He is born to please King Yadu, one of Your dearest devotees. You appear in his family as sandalwood appears in the Malaya hills.
* Krishna is actually unborn, He is aja. So He appears with His free will.
* For us, as living entities, because of our conditioning, we have to keep taking birth. And although the body gets annihilated, the soul keeps taking newer bodies. But our goal in this lifetime should be to go back to Krishna, that is to not take birth again in this material world.
* And for this it needs qualification.
* We need to understand His transcendental activities and pastimes, that is one way to go back home, back to Godhead.
* Another imp point: Why Krishna is taking birth. He wants to glorify His devotees, that is one of the reasons why He takes birth. Eg: He was born in the Yadu dynasty, and therefore King Yadu is known everywhere now.
* Eg: Sandalwood in malaya hills, sun appearing in the eastern horizon.
* For devotees, nothing is more important than serving Krishna and His devotees.
* We need to have total faith in the Lord, that no matter what the Lord will take care. Krishna is the ultimate provider, so the more we depend on Krishna, the more He will reciprocate with him. And develop attachment with devotees and praying for mercy, that will help us. It is also completely up to us as to how much we want to utilize it.
* Attachment for the material is the greatest thing holding us back. Some austerity is required in this human form.
* Bamboo flute's austerity

Have faith, develop faith, always pray for mercy, and undergo some austerity!

Verses 1.8.30 and 31

Verse 1.8.31 (Hareesha Mji)

Verse 1.8.30 (Yk Prabhuji):
* Krishna's pastimes are bewildering and contradictory too. He makes so many of His devotees cry, but He is still the reservoir of all love.
* He is the friend of all living entities, but Gopi's say He is cruel. So His pastimes are contradictory. Bali Maharaj, He pushed him down, Bhishmadeva, He almost fought with Him.
* Assammurdhva - Everything is possible with the Supreme Lord. Nobody is equal to Him, nobody is greater than Him.
* Krishna has two different levels (tattva and lila). Philosophy and pleasure of devotees. Another two features - knows everything, forgets Himself amongst devotees.
* All contradictions culminate in Krishna. Externally they might appear to be contradictions, but they all fit in into the personality of Krishna. For an atheist it might be bewildering, but for a devotee, it is a source of pleasure.
* Urukrama - does wonderful pastimes. Eg: Case of Vamandeva. Does uncommon activities.
* Trivikrama - who has controlled the 3 worlds. That is Krishna, God!
