Verse 1.9.2 and 1.9.3 (Krishna Patro Pr):
* After Queen Kunti's prayers, Lord Krishna got down from the chariot. At the same time, Maharaj Yudhistira was being perplexed.
* By the compassion of Maharaj Yudhistira, he was lamenting that he was the cause of the massacre of so many lives, due to this war.
Noone was able to pacify him. Even the great sages were not able to pacify Maharaj.
* Everything is acting according to the will of the Lord. Here Lord Sri Krishna wanted that Maharaj Yudhistira should learn from his great devotee Bhishmadeva. He also wanted Bhishmadeva to be glorified.
...
...
* We should have complete faith and accept the Lord as the Supreme shelter.

Q: If Krishna protects pure devotees, why did Bhishmadeva have to go through such suffering of lying down on the bed of arrows for so long?
A: - Krishna's gaurantee is not for the body, but for the spirit soul. Here Bhishmadeva is a pure devotee, so he knows that he is not the body. So through him Krishna is telling the world how to handle old age and disease. So he was actually not in suffering at all, he was constantly remembering Lord Krishna.
- Another thing is that Krishna wanted to prove to the world that dharma is all important, anyone who is against dharma, even if he is a pure devotee, has to fall down. So Krishna used Bhishmadeva in a negative role to prove this point.

But because Bhishmadeva is a realized soul, Lord Krishna made him speak to Maharaj Yudishtira now, so that his realizations could come

out to the world.
