Canto 1.14.6-8 ( Prji):
* Yudhistira Maharaj, had not heard any news from Arjuna, also seeing the symptoms of Kali yuga, he is lamenting Krishna's disappearance.
* SP comments: When Maharaja Yudhisthira was lamenting the possibility of His disappearance, it was just in pursuance of a custom of lamenting the disappearance of a great friend, but factually the Lord never quits His transcendental body, as is misconceived by less intelligent persons. Such less intelligent persons have been condemned by the Lord Himself in Bhagavad-gita, and they are known as the mudhas.
* Another thing: Plenary portions. Vrindavan Krishna is different from Mathura Krishna, is different from Dvaraka dham. Only His plenary portion went back.
* All of a sudden, we cannot become a pure devotee, but by our sincerity, serving devotees, Krishna will reveal Himself to us.
* When we are alone, when maya attacks, are we conscious of Him. The only thing in mind is I am this body. But if we remember Krishna, then only our life is successful.
* Krishna also came to us as Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda. Lord Nityananda is so merciful, He delivered most fallen souls like Jagai and Madhai too. I am also in that condition, so I should seek His shelter by nicely chanting the Hare Krishna Maha mantra.

Symptoms of Kaliyuga and Jewel of Kali yuga!
Verse 1.14.5 (Kasi Prji):
* In course of time it came to pass that people in general became accustomed to greed, anger, pride, etc. Maharaja Yudhisthira, observing all these omens, spoke to his younger brother.
* SP comments: It appears from this statement that all these symptoms of degraded society were unknown to the people of the time, and it was astonishing for them to have experienced them with the advent of the Kali-yuga, or the age of quarrel.
* In our current situation, it is so down that if someone is not showing such symptoms, then we start doubting the persons.
* So many examples in society, politics in India, is just a simple example.
* Unless one comes to devotional service, these attachments to sense gratification will not go down.
* Very important to be in the association of devotees.
* A real devotee does not see another devotee as how I can make use of them. He only sees how he can serve them. From selfishness to selflessness.
* When there is no religion, human beings are considered as animals.
* So many faults in this kailyuga, but there is one gift though: SB 12.3.51 (kaler doshe nidhe rajan...) chanting of the holy name is the most precious gift!
* Symptoms of kaliyuga, as told in this pastime
- ppl become greedy
- u can expect half or less of what u do to others
- ppl are huge amt of income for their sense gratification, but not a small amt too for spiritual things
- one can free oneself from all sins, just by simply chanting the holy name!

4 defects of the Conditioned Soul!
Verse 1.14.4 (Yugal Kishore Prji):
* So Arjuna went to Dwaraka just to find out what to do next. In between, Maharaj Yudhistira was observing disparities in the world.
* America is foremost in material progress, but still so many natural disasters, so many problems, why? Animal killing and more other vices causes all these.
* As conditioned souls, we have 4 imperfections
- we make mistakes
- we have imperfect senses
- we get illusioned
- we try to cheat others
* Even in devotee circles, we try to cheat. Instead of being honest, we try to be a hypocrite. That will result in no happiness, just leading to quarrels
- even between father and son, brothers, husband and wife
- cause we try to control
- best thing is, leave it to Krishna!
- problem comes when we try to control others and others try to control us
* Story, festival celebrated in Melkhote
- Sridevi and Bhudevi, they go home. Supreme Lord asks the pujari, have they come back. No, then He things they are not respecting Him. He becomes angry, starts galloping away
- mediator is pujari, namallawar.
- on the way, they cross each other, He doesn't look at them....
- so the difference of opinion is also there in the spiritual world, but for the pleasure of the Lord.
* So problem is control others for enjoying
- Solution is: be Krishna Conscious
- with Krishna in the center, become servant of servant of the servant of the Lord.
* By being in this way, automatically peace comes in.
* So seeing all these disparities in the world, MY is conjecturing that the Supreme Lord has left the world.

Samsidir Haritosahanam...
Verse 1.14.3 (Shalini Mji):
* Many imp points that we can see in today's verse.
* Maharaj Yudhistira sent his brother to get news of Lord Krishna. He was waiting and waiting and no news came from him. He was also seeing all bad omens.
* Topic of Krishna leaving Vrindavan is itself too much painful for devotees to hear. This chapter is even more difficult to speak about.
* Symptoms observed: here were disruptions in the seasonal regularities. The people in general had become very greedy, angry and deceitful. And he saw that they were adopting foul means of livelihood.
* There 4 pillars of dharma, when these 4 are lost, then for sure humanity is going towards its complete downfall.
* But by following SP's 4 regulative principles, we are saving these pillars
- not gambling, truth
- cleanliness by no illict sex
- mercy by no meat eating
- austerity by no intoxication
* Whoever we are, whatever occupational duty we might have, the real purpose is to satisfy Krishna.
- SB: samsidir haritosahanam...
- highest perfection one can achieve, is to please the Supreme Personality of Godhead!
* We are very fortunate that today we are able to even take this SB, the vedic purana which is like a powerful sun to distribute light.
- SB is counted among the puranas, but is called the spotless purana, cause it does not describe anything material.
- subject matter is meant for parama hamsa's.
* By following DS, we come to the platform of knowledge and renunciation, from where we come to bhakti.
* Today is also very auspicious day, Sri Nityananda's appearance day.
- If we just hold on to the lotus feet of Nityananda Pr, then Gauranga Mahaprabhu will be happy, through which we will attain the mercy of Radha and Krishna!

Kaliyuga, Protection is Holy Name!
Verse 1.14.2 (Saci Suta Prji):
* Here, we see that MY has sent Arjuna to know about the Lord's next plan. Couple of months passed and no news came, and he was also seeing inauspicious omens.
* All this were showing the signs of disappearance of the Lord.
* In the BG, it is said: one who knows the appearance and disappearance of the Lord and His activities, does not have to return to this material world upon his death.
* Only at this time, Kali was getting permission to come into the earth and as kaliyuga is progressing, everything is going down. Adulteration, animal killing, prostitution, is present everywhere. Society is going down like anything.
* At least we are in the golden age of Kaliyuga.
* The protection is God Consciousness, Krishna Consciousness, the shelter of the Holy name!
* Lord is present in His holy name, but are we taking advantage of these wonderful instructions and messages of our acharyas.
* If our service is good, our chanting is good. If our chanting is good, then our service is good. Then steady progress in KC will exist.

"The disappearance of Lord Krsna"
Verse 1.14.1 (Srinivas Acharya Prji):
* Sri Suta Goswami is telling: Arjuna went to Dvaraka to see Lord Sri Krsna and other friends and also to learn from the Lord of His next activities.
* ...
* As the Sun is always there, just disappears and appears everyday, similarly, the Lord is also present, He just appears and disappears according to His sweet will.
* BG: paritranaya sadhunam...
* When the living entity falls down from the spiritual world, it is very difficult to get out of the 3
modes of material nature. In order to attract them, the Lord comes to protect the sadhus, by attracting them with his magnificent pastimes.
* Charmed by His pastimes, they go under His shelter and they get all instructions, eg: BG.
* In order to surrender to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, first thing we need to do is parityajya, leave away all misconceptions, come with a pure heart to the Lord. Then we will be protected by the Lord, impurities in the heart will go away.

Association of devotees!
Verse 1.13.60 (Kavitha Mji):
* Last verse in this Chapter.
* ...
* Naradamuni in his previous life was the son of a simple maidservant, serving the saints and taking their remnants.
* In their company, he became a greta devotee.
* Exemplifies the power of association of devotees.
* Serve the devotees and seek their association. Even a moment's association can achieve all perfection.
* In CC, Sri CM says on explaining the duties of a Vaisnava: one who gives up the association of non-devotees.
- through sravanam is one way
* DS is so potent, that simply engaging in the devotional activities will automatically make you devotional.
* Constantly hanker for association of devotees. Even reading Srila Prabhupada's books is association!

Vaisnava Relationships, Serving...
Verse 1.13.59 (Saci Suta Pr):
* SP mentioning two imp pts:
- Dhrtrashtra was liberated because he got the association of Vidhura, a pure devotee of the Lord!
- An offense at the feet of a Vaisnava is more dangerous than an offense at the lotus feet of the Lord.
- Eg: Jagai and Madhai
* Vaisnava aparadha, the Lord never forgets
- Also eg: Jagai being delivered, madhai not. Only after madhai fell at the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda, that he was forgiven.
* Vaisnava relationships so imp
- relating to devotees and developing relationships
- in NOI, 6 principles to developing good relationships
* We should offer obeisances, serve, even to neophyte vaisnavas.
* Purpose of serving devotees is ultimately to serve Krishna! for the pleasure of Guru and Krishna.
* In Caityanya Caritamrta, these 6 principles are so nicely given
- Lord exchanging prasadam with othe devotees
- Srivas thakur's humility
- Haridas thakur's merciful attitude
* Chanting is the essence!

Yogic Processes...
Verse 1.13.56 (Krishna Patro Prji):
* Here Naradamuni is instructing MY not to bring his uncle back, because he is now into coming out of the 3 modes, thus trying to achieve the purpose of the human form.
* Yogic processes of controlling senses, to achieve the same effect ...
* Easiest is KC, which is positive engagement of senses in the service of the SPG.
* How yogi's attain perfection?
- unless gross materialists develop service attitude to the SPG, they should remember the SPG, same way, the yogi's once attained control of senses, can leave this body and go to different other planets as they please. Slowly leaving their gross material elements, they cross the 7 layers of the universe
- Krishna says: of all the yogis, one who renders service to the SPG is most united with Me.
- Direct devotional service to Lord Krishna, bhakti yoga, is the simplest, easiest, natural and prescribed way for all of us, as stated by great acharyas.
* Sravanam, kirtanam is all what we need.
* At any situation, we can and should always remember Krishna, the SPG.
* Process of meditation on the different parts of the body of the SPG should be gradual and from the lotus feet to the lotus smile and face.

DESIRE!
Verse 1.13.55 (Pooja Mji):
* The living being, by his desiring to lord it over the material world and declining to cooperate with the Supreme Lord, contacts the sum total of the material world, namely the mahat-tattva, and from the mahat-tattva his false identity with the material world, intelligence, mind and senses is developed. This covers his pure spiritual identity.
* Question is how do we get free from the clutches of Mahat-tattva?
* SP comments: by yogic process, we can attain to our spiritual identity.
* Also stated in BG: how we have to recognize our qualitative oneness with the SPG..
* Isopanishad, verse 1. Complete!
* SP is also instructing how when we take up the process of KC, the Supreme Lord Himself will take care of us.
* BG 18.66: Surrender to Him, will be delivered from all sins.
* Dhrtharashtra, got free from material clutches, because of his association with a pure devotee, Vidhura. And a pure devotee does not live in the material planets at all. Always in the spiritual world.
* For us to do this too: according to SP, one word answer: DESIRE. We need DESIRE, to do this, in this life time.

Overcoming the 3 modes, engaging in DS!
Verse 1.13.54 (Mohan Prji):
* Today's verse, instructive to us.
* Story: Person who is trying to do the activity in the mode of goodness, however his senses being propelled towards gambling. Being driven by the senses.
* That's what SP is mentioning today, about the modes of passion and ignorance.
* For a person in goodness too, he is still being controlled by the senses.
* In BG Ch2, Krishna is describing a person who is mersed in transcendence. Same thing is mentioned here too. Verse 55 till end of chapter.
- First thing one should do: control the senses. These senses are very strong, as soon as object comes forward, pull the senses back. Even one sense is not controlled, will take away a person.
* So what is the solution
- Our philosophy is yukta vairagya. Utility is the principle. Use the senses in the service of the Lord. Eg: Ambarisha Maharaj, how he engaged his senses in the service of the Lord.
- Daiviesha guna mai...(BG)
- Cleaning the temple, hearing about the Lord etc. This is how simple the bhakti yoga process is.
- then we can easily transcend the 3 modes of nature!

Astanga Yoga and Austerity...
Verse 1.13.51-53 (Ramana Prji):
* Here, SP tells about the things of astanga yogi's.
* Even if we followed all the austerities, it is not possible to attain self-realization so easily.
* The easiest way therefore is: sankirtanam.
* Serve, inquire and learn.
* SP further comments on the material existence: comparing, criticizing, complaining is all that we do.
* In modern society, ppl don't know difference between religion and irreligion.
* So we should first come to the right consciousness.
* Further, SP talks about fasting.
- it is about controlling senses.
- modern man does not know the real meaning of fasting.
- Tongue is the greatest enemy. If we cannot control it, then we cannot control any of the sense.
- Hence, eat nicely prasada, simple!
* All that is needed is
- man mana bhava ... (always think about Krishna, serve Him, worship Him)
- Sadhana, vaisnava network, service, are simple requirements towards this goal of self-realization.

Remembering the Lord always...
Verse 1.13.50 (Sundari Mji):
* Here Naradamuni is telling to the Pandavas that they should wait until the Lord's rest of the pastimes and then they are free to go back.
* ...
* The whole material world is created because of the envious nature.
- Envy means I want to be the enjoyer.
* Whatever our status is, our only purpose is to please Krishna. Then the soul is satisfied.
* "bhoktaram..." is the peace giving formula. If we understand this, then we will be peaceful.
- We r trying to be enjoy, but we have to be the enjoyed!
* Isopanishad Verse 1 too
- if we understand to whom all things belong, then we won't be greed.
* When there is no envy, then only love remains.
* Real pleasure of this life is actually taking shelter of Krishna.
* Every step there is misery. So take shelter of the Holy name.
* Another pt: The Lord keeps appearing for not just human beings, but also for animals (Gajendra Moksha).
* "Smashana Vairagya" is not enough. We simply forget everything as soon as we come to the material activities.
* But the main thing will be to always remember Krishna, never forget Krishna.

Kala, all-devouring time
Verse 1.13.49 (Kasi Pr):
* The SPG is kala, time!
* Kala has 3 different phases, past, present and future.
* In the spiritual world, there are no 3 phases of time. It is always present.
* In the material existence, Lord Krishna is here in terms of time. As time, He will take away everything for sure.
* One of the root causes of material contamination is - being envious of Krishna. That is why we ended up here.
- we are also envious of one another
* How to break this cycle of enviousness
- we have to be a friend of everyone, not be envious of anyone
- by taking the shelter of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna
- which will make us not afraid of kala or time
and hence break the cycle of birth and death.

This too shall pass!
Verse 1.13.48 (Yugal Kishore Prji):
* So here Naradamuni is preaching to Maharaj Yudhistira, that all these are temporary.
* One day, King asked to get: one statement, which is true for all circumstances.
- one sadhu came one day, gave one statement. Kept in ring. Was defeated in a war, then saw this statement
- "This too shall pass" (true in all circumstances, that everything is temporary)
* Krishna also says the same thing in BG: matras sparshas..
- it is all skin problem, for eg: a dear has been skin that will protect it from winter and summer, but human beings have this skin disease
* So instead of fighting for better pleasures, try to purify ourselves listening to paramatma in our heart.
* For that only, the SPG came as Sri CM, to deliver the fallen souls. He took sannyasa, but he chases and preaches to us. Yesterday was the day when Sri CM took sannyasa, for us all.
- So we need to ask, are we going in the direction that Sri CM wants us to go.
* So tolerate the happiness and distress. Raise above the bodily platform, genuinely chanting the holy name, utilize the human life for cleansing of the heart, not expecting anything from anyone. Eventually you will be transported to the Vrindavan realm, Goloka.

Prasad, Vegetarianism ...
Verse 1.13.47 (Deepthi Mji):
* Srila Prabhupada's nectarine purports!
* What is the difference between a human being and an animal.
- the opportunity for self realization in human beings
* Power of prasad
- SP tells what to eat, what not to eat
- Taking remnants of the Lord to purify ourselves
- partaking of remnants of pure devotees
- prasad is very powerful, so we should always offer prescribed foodstuffs to the Lord
* Exploitation
- contrary, in the devotees circle, its only love
- all other places are exploitation only
* SP also described how a true leader should be
- should understand KC, be God conscious and hence awaken in the general masses too
- Like Maharaj Yudhistira, Maharaj Parikshit etc.
- then all problems will go away
* Krishna Consciousness is such a simple, sublime process meant to change our heart. When our heart changes, we can treat everyone equally and have loving relationships with everyone.
YKPR:
* While speaking of Veg, non-veg, we quote this shloka.
* When asked about the killing of plants too by vegetarians, this shloka of Narada muni is used.
* Veg food is also not really veg, then emphasis is there on Prasad. Once it is honored by Krishna, that no sin is involved.

Take control, CHANT!!!
Verse 1.13.46 (Ashish Prji):
* We are not in control, Kala (time) and Karma are in control, the main theme.
- so many incidents, which were not in our control
* Another ex: flying is an advancement, but it has become so difficult with so many restrictions.
* Similarly, while chanting, am I really on that flight. So many things I like to do while chanting, then is it good? No.
* All I have to do is perform devotional service. SP has confirmed, all regulative principles when we follow and chant the holy name, he will take us back to Godhead for sure!

Ignorance and Anxiety is the problem...
Verse 1.13.45 (Srinivas Acharya Prji):
* "Therefore give up your anxiety due to ignorance of the self. You are now thinking of how they, who are helpless poor creatures, will exist without you."
* In the chapter verses 44 and 45, we can striking similarity between what Krishna speaks in the BG 2nd Chapter and what Srila Narada muni is speaking here.
* Whether soul is material or spiritual, feelings of separation are due only to illusory affection and nothing more.
* Kaliyuga is full of anxieties and place of suffering. Whereas spiritual world is without any anxiety.
* In this verse, two key words
- ignorance and anxiety
* Anxiety that we are doing everything for our kin and kith, is mainly due to the bodily mode of life.
* We can see in this world that two beings working towards the same goal, will still have some conflicts
- eg: our two hands. friction starts, heat produced and all problems arise, sure in this material world.
* That's why SP says that we need to make the best of this bad bargain.
* Sri CM also says: bhavamahadavagni... fire of material existence. There will always be points of friction between two individuals as long as we are in this material world.
* As long as we are thinking that I am this body, the problems will always exist.
* In order to solve this: BG 2.45. "O Arjuna become free from the modes, be free from duality". Same message Krishna is giving as is what Naradamuni in this verse.
* Also in Isopanishad 7th shloka. Also in SB 3 Canto, Devahuti is telling to her son Kapila muni about these material anxieties.
* To solve these problems
- rise to the platform of spiritual identification
- accept spiritual master
- always chant the holy names of Sri Hari
- surrender to vaisnavas, guru and Sri Krishna!
* BG 18.66, surrender is very essential for one to get free from material anxieties. Sri CM also says: trnad api...harih. Same instructions!
* Without chanting the holy names, humility does not develop and without humility surrender cannot develop. This is the beauty of Krishna Consciousness!

Knowledge leads "No Lamentation"!
Verse 1.13.44 (Bal Govind Prji):
* Narada muni is telling that affection wrt body is illusory affection only. And why so, cause we are taking ownership. Lacking the knowledge of the spirit soul.
* Thats why in BG, Krishna tells Arjuna about this in the 2nd chapter. Knowledge of the soul.
* So we have to get factual knowledge.
* Another such eg: Maharaj Chitraketu's son dying, coming back and speaking philosophy of the eternal soul.
- that eternal father is Krishna.
- when we forget and take ownership, then we come under problem, lamentation.
- Lamentation implies clear indication of ignorance.
* So what is knowledge, it is transcendental knowledge.
* We can overcome this ignorance through:
- take shelter of holy name
- take shelter of Krishna through scriptures
- take shelter of pure devotees.
* So here, Maharaj Yudhistira is taking shelter of Srila Narada muni.
* 24/7 Krishna is protecting us, only thing is we need to recognize us. And that comes with knowledge, which comes through pure devotee association
- Prahalad M, Dhruv M, Bhismadeva, etc, all present in SB, so just read it and take their association.
* We have to take this opportunity and perfect our life.
* Whenever we are in anxiety, think of Krishna!
* Therefore, it is being said here: whether you consider the soul to be an eternal principle, or the material body to be perishable, or everything to exist in the impersonal Absolute Truth, or everything to be an inexplicable combination of matter and spirit, feelings of separation are due only to illusory affection and nothing more.
Verse 1.13.42 (Shalini Mji):
* Naradamuni is instructing Maharaj Yudhistira: As a cow, bound through the nose by a long rope, is conditioned, so also human beings are bound by different Vedic injunctions and are conditioned to obey the orders of the Supreme.
* 3 points
- we r conditioned souls
- we r bound to obey the laws of Lord
- actual freedom is when we surrender to Krishna.
* Conditioned soul characteristics
- material consciousness. I am the controller, I am this body and I am the enjoyer.
- this "I am the doer" is false ego. That is the condition we are in.
- spirit soul is bewildered by this, the activities are actually carried out by the 3 modes of material nature
* In this conditioning, we forget Krishna. The main goal is to remember Krishna always, that reverse happens.
* Krishna is the supreme controller, He is the one who is actually running the whole show!
* By proper chanting, we can realize that we are in this conditioned state. The highest process is devotional service. Anyone rendering this is very dear to Krishna!
* And one who knows that Krishna is the SPG, is the supreme Lord and completely surrenders to Krishna is very rare, Krishna says in BG.
* So we have to follow this process very sincerely.
* Narada muni is telling that affection wrt body is illusory affection only. And why so, cause we are taking ownership. Lacking the knowledge of the spirit soul.

Power of time!
Verse 1.13.41 (Yugal Kishore Prji):
* MY was lamenting the sudden departure of Dhrtarashtra. At that time, by Krishna's mercy, Narada muni came to dispel his lamentation. By the Lord's grace, one this gets the association of pure devotees.
* Narada muni is talking about the power of time. As soon as quota of happiness and distress is done, we have to leave.
* But what about bhakti?
* This material world is like a forest fire. Always creating anxiety. But when we pick up devotional service, Krishna protects us from this frightening situation. He puts out the fire of material existence and it is very auspicious (welfare for us).
* So here Naradamuni is asking MY not to search for Dhrtarashtra and Mother Gandhari.
* We r all under the purview of time. So we cannot counteract the 3 modes or the power of time. So we have to purify ourselves without wasting time. And someone has to remind us of that. So chant sincerely.
* So do not lament for anyone, just execute our duties. Cause we understand or have this knowledge of the power of time.
* Everything works under the guidance of the SPG... Swetaswatara Upanishad.
* If we genuinely take shelter of Krishna, then we don't have to depend on anybody. Life will go on. That's the power of chanting.

Queen Gandhari, Devarishi Narada...
Verses 1.13.39-40 (Surekha Mji):
* So here, we see that Maharaj Yudhistira was very anxious not seeing his uncle and most ascetic aunt.
* Queen Gandhari from the beginning was very austere.
* Austerity has to be performed for self-realization.
* She was very faithful, all conditions followed her husband. Even when Vidhura instructed Dhrtarashtra to go to the forests, she very voluntarity followed her husband even there, even though she was so old and all her sons were no longer alive.
* Although a woman, no less than Bhismadeva in character.
* Maharaj Yudhistira addressed Devarishi Narada as captain of our ship. The greatest of all philosophers are those who have seen the Personality of Godhead and have surrendered themselves in the transcendental loving service of the Lord. Among all such pure devotees of the Lord, Devarsi Nārada is the chief.
* Faithful, learned and renounced => qualifications of a pure devotee.
* Narada can give good guidance to pure devotees.

Pure devotee association!
Verse 1.13.38 (Krishna Patro Pr):
* We can see how the Pandavas, from their childhood are always satisfying the SPG.
* Pure devotees find satisfaction in self alone, by serving the Lord and the devotees. No other material thing will give the same satisfaction.
* In spite of all difficulties he had already faced, Maharaj Yudhistira is feeling so much pain about Dhrthrashtra and Gandhari leaving the palace. He forgave everything, that is the nature of a pure devotee.
eg: chicken goes into the trash and just gets one nice grain and is satisfied.
* Another eg of a pure devotee: Draupadi forgiving Ashwattama, even though he killed all her 5 sons.
* In his service to his uncle, YM never showed any wrong feeling. Always compassionate to him.
* Here, we can learn how to forgive and learn about the good in others and simultaneously serving others.
* Another point: greatness of pure devotees like Naradamuni, who had no other business save and except singing the glories of the Lord and saving conditioned souls.
* Pandavas are setting an example of how we should receive the pure devotees of the Lord.

Reminding us again and again...
Verses 1.13.36-37 (Yugal Kishore Prji):
* Sanjaya is the secretary of Dhrtharashtra and also the disciple of Vedavyas.
* We know the setting of BG too, where Sanjaya used to see through his divine vision and narrating it to Dhrtarashtra.
* So when he left, Sanjaya felt cheated. But that is true with almost everyone, near and dear one's leave at any moment.
* Here, Dhrtharashtra left without telling anyone cause he did not want any kind of attachment and went to the forest for a higher cause of attaining the supreme.
* For us also, we have been cultivated under the guidance of parampara, so we are reaping the benefits now. So we have to cultivate others.
* Other examples: Krishna ordered MY to speak a lie, is that cheating. No, it is the highest truth, cause it is for the Supreme Lord.
* Point: We lament when there is a disconnection with near and dear, but we forget. Like Dhrtharashta, we also need some one to remind us again and again. Maya is so powerful that we will forget slowly. So like Dhrtharashtra, as SM is speaking now, we have to slowly rise and move away from the illusion of material existence.
* So when chanting, we should disconnect with the whole world and be in close touch with the holy name. We should not neglect. Genuinely try.

Enthusiasm, Cheerfulness and Conviction...
Verses 1.13.34-35 (Ramana Pr):
* Sanjaya was fully compassionate toward Dhṛtarāṣṭra because in the game of the Battle of Kuruksetra, King Dhrtarāstra had lost everything, men and money, and at last the King and the Queen had to leave home in utter frustration.
* He studied the situation in his own way because he did not know that the inner vision of Dhṛtarāṣṭra has been awakened by Vidura and that therefore he had left home in enthusiastic cheerfulness for a better life after departure from the dark well of home.
* Mahatmas come to shake us out of illusion and show the naked truth.
* 3 things
- enthusiasm, cheerfulness and be convinced to be strong to come to KC
* These are the qualities that differentiates between ritual and spiritual.
* To be effective in preaching, we require a superior taste. That's why we need very good sadhana. Chanting is a central pivot of Krishna Consciousness.
* We should chant in the mood of trnad api sunicena.... Practise humility.
* Master-servant relationship is being emphasized in here between Dhrtharashtra and Sanjaya.
* Our mood should be ahaituki, apratihata, in serving the spiritual master.

Find faults in ourselves, not others!
Verses 1.13.32-33 (Uma Mataji)
* Very nice sholka giving a practising message to vaisnavas.
* The pandavas had to do the war of Kurukshetra under the direction of the Lord. Maharaj Yudhistira was always taking the responsibility of the war and of the killing of all the sons of Dhrtrashtra.
* He used to everyday pay respects to Dhrtrastra and his wife Gandhari.
* Today, they were not visible in the house.
* As a pious man, Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira took into account all his unavoidable misdeeds, and he never thought of the misdeeds of his uncle and company. Dhrtarashtra had suffered the effects of his own misdeeds by the will of the Lord, but MY was thinking only of his own unavoidable misdeeds. That is the nature of a good man and devotee of the Lord.
* This is the nature of the devotee: A devotee never finds fault with others, but tries to find his own and thus rectify them as far as possible.
* We should respect people for what they are, then only we have achieved humility.
* We should always look into ourselves for faults, not into others. That's how we can employ Sri CM's shloka: trnad api sunicena...
* Pray for keeping mind straight and focus on being humble, without hurting other vaisnavas.

Happy Krishna Conscious New Year!!!
Verse 1.13.30 (Yugal Kishore Prji):
* SB deals with paramahamsa's and how they transcended the cycle of birth and death and went back to Godhead.
* Last verses, we saw how Vidhura chastised Maharaj Dhrtharashtra about this attachments.
* Eg: Unintelligent bird gets attached to its cage, then how true it is with human beings.
* Because of attachment for the body (8.4 million number of bodies), the atma does not want to fly back, but is attached to its body.
* We have New Year, calling it auspicious new year, but doing all inauspicious things like drinking, gambling etc.
* Coming back to Gandhari: by nature we have the propensity to enjoy. but whoeever wakes up is good. For Dhrtarashtra it is Vidhura and for us, it is this bhagavatam class.
* After 50, generally the husband turns to vanaprastha, leaving the wife under the care of noble sons.
* Women should always be under the protection and care of father or husband or son. Here Gandhari need not have gone with her husband, but she decided to go with her husband into the forest.
* Another counter example: Devahuti, she did not follow her husband, but stayed back in the palace. Kapilamuni asked her to stay back. She was so chaste and followed her husband's words, that the Lord was born to her. She finally became a river, tributary to Ganga.
* Life is meant to cleanse our heart. Years are going by, but do we have relief from grief, envy, lust. This is what we have to ponder on.
* If we keep Krishna in the center very nicely, then it is possible.
* The Vaisnava sannyāsīs are narottamas, whereas the Māyāvādī sannyāsīs are dhīras. Mahārāja Dhrtarāstra was advised to follow the dhīras because at that stage it was difficult for him to become a narottama.
* Tri-dandi means body, mind and words.
* Our resolution should be: always remember Krishna, never forget Krishna!
